This recipe is for the dogs. We rescued our sweet retriever from the RROC (The Retriever Rescue of Colorado). Daisy had the best foster mom who shared this recipe with me. Daisy goes crazy for these gluten free dog treats! I love that they are good for her and they won’t hurt my kids either. My kids BEG me to try one. I don’t let them because they are Daisy’s special treats, however I know if they do eat one behind my back the treats won’t hurt them. This may seem crazy, but my youngest daughter puts just about everything into her mouth and was actually contaminated by dog food last year. Since then, our pooch eats gluten free as well.
1 large can of pink salmon (I have also used equivalent amounts of fresh, cooked salmon when available and on sale)
1/2 cup chopped parsley
3 eggs, shells included (good source of calcium)
1/2 cup sesame seeds, ground in coffee grinder or other food processor
1/2 cup flax seeds, ground in coffee grinder (or flax meal)
2 – 3 cups potato flour
Put ingredients into a food processor or blender and mix VERY WELL. When dough forms and follows mixer blade around, there is probably enough flour in it. You can knead more flour into it if necessary to handle. Turn out onto floured board or counter and roll about 1/4″ thick. You can use a pizza cutter, back side of a knife or shaped cutters to cut into squares or other shapes. Bake on lightly greased cookie sheets (or cookie sheets lined with parchment paper) at 375 degrees for 20 minutes. Rotate cookie sheets and bake for 10 minutes more. You can make them as soft or hard as you want. They firm up as they cool too. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
